Meet Your Trainer: Katie Ribsam

Director and Co-Lead Trainer Katie Ribsam, ERYT 500

Director and Co-Lead Trainer Katie Ribsam, ERYT 500

A bohemian at heart, Katie is a globe-trotting, earth-loving, cultural adventurer and spiritual explorer who has dedicated her life to finding deeper ways to connect with people, the planet, and the infinite. A devoted yogi for well over 30 years, she began her teaching journey as an apprentice in the Power Yoga discipline and later traveled to India to study under internationally renowned teacher and trainer, Raghunath Cappo.

As an instructor, Katie draws inspiration from a wide range of traditions, including Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, and Hatha. She is also the creator of the Wave Method—a unique approach to sequencing that weaves postures together into seamless, balanced, and creative flows. Designed to deliver a holistic physical and energetic experience, this method brings a sense of fluidity not only to Vinyasa but also to Yin and Restorative classes, where transitions can sometimes feel disjointed or static. For Katie, asana is only the beginning: while the physical practice is foundational, she sees it as the gateway to the spiritual and emotional depth that truly sets yoga apart.

With a deep love for Mother Earth and more than a decade of experience in environmental education, Katie has also become a pioneer in the emerging field of Eco-Yoga. From Beach Yoga and SUP Yoga to Yoga Hikes and international retreats, she specializes in connecting students to the natural world through practice.

Over the past decade, Katie has taught more than 20 groups of 200-hour trainees and guided hundreds of 300-hour advanced students, continually refining her approach through the lessons she’s learned along the way. These insights now shape her professional training curriculum, ensuring that each program she leads is grounded, comprehensive, and transformative.

What Students are Saying!

I am so grateful that I chose Yoga Bohemia to do my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. My only wish- that it was longer. I have learned so much and grew so much in this time. Liz and Katie are super supportive and knowledgeable. They address any questions and concerns you may have to their fullest capability. I was so nervous starting this program but I am glad I did. Yoga Bohemia is super flexible with our schedules, too and that made it a no brainer for me. My goal was to learn more about the philosophy of yoga and get back into my asana practice. I managed to accomplish both. Katie and Liz also brought in so many amazing teachers like Cori, Madhu, Raghunath, Malia, and Sal. We worked on inversions, headstands, Thai Yoga, beach yoga, and even got a chance to experience Kirtan. It was a life changing journey and it doesn’t stop here. I hope to be doing Yoga Bohemia’s 300 Hour Teacher Training sometime in the near future. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your time, wisdom, patience and support.

Bohemia School of Yoga’s 200hr YTT program has been transformational in every explanation of the word. When I enrolled I assumed that at the end of 200 hours I would be able to instruct physical postures to a class of people. I was right, but this expectation was just skimming the surface. “200 hours” narrows this program down to a number, but those numbers of hours were spent with the highest quality discussion, realization, self discovery, and (personally) lots of emotional moments! This program was the most valuable investment of my time because it has truly changed my life in such a beautiful way. Katie and Lizzie are phenomenal guides and teachers, as a 200 hour class we agree that we trust them with everything. They are impressively knowledgeable, not only in all things yoga, but all things nature, science, life (the list goes on). After this program I felt fully confident and capable of teaching my own classes. But more importantly this program shed light on the life I want to lead and how I want my soul to shine in this lifetime! If I could spend every summer the way I spent this past summer I would in a heartbeat. Sign up and be ready to blossom! The journey is unimaginably beautiful, and difficult to narrow down into words, you would have to experience the magic yourself :)

I wholeheartedly recommend Bohemia School of Yoga. Katie and Liz have crafted a teaching method that combines meticulous attention to academic detail with so much heart and love. The growth that the members of my cohort and I achieved was phenomenal in terms of yoga practice, yoga philosophy, physiology, self-knowledge, confidence and teaching skills. For me to come to this experience at the age of 54 and find so much support, encouragement, friendship and learning has been such a blessing. There are too many amazing moments to describe. I will forever hold Yoga Bohemia School of Yoga, the members of my cohort and this journey deep in my heart.

-C.L.

I would highly recommend that anyone who is aspiring to be a yoga teacher to earn their certification through Bohemia School of Yoga. Katie and Lizzy’s combined areas of expertise and knowledge provided the absolute perfect balance of yoga Asana, yoga philosophy, and anatomy for the program’s curriculum. The combination of each of their individual subject matter expertise gave me the confidence to learn and implement the teachings of yoga to my own yoga practice and to my own arsenal of knowledge which I will now be passing along to my yoga students. Although there were multiple yoga schools in Philadelphia, making the trip to LBI was worth it. The content, knowledge, and experience that Katie and Lizzy bring to the YTT200 program is like no other. You won’t find it anywhere else. My experience at Yoga Bohemia has been life changing and would recommend to anyone

-K.P.

I walked through the doors of Yoga Bohemia expecting to deepen my asana practice, and I left with so much more: an open heart and mind, a nourished soul, lifelong friends, and most importantly, a better understanding of who I am as a person and how I can achieve my dharma on this earth. During our ten weeks of deep study and self-reflection, I grew and flourished in places I did not previously realize even had room for further growth, and in the process, I achieved the highest level of self-awareness I have possessed to this date.

By setting a model and example of what it means to practice yoga not just in the studio but in all aspects of one’s life, we learned how to live mindfully, maintain integrity in our actions, and take care of our interwoven minds, bodies, and souls. I loved that our training covered a wide breadth of topics, including yoga basics such as the yamas, niyamas, and sutras, as well as topics unique to Yoga Bohemia, namely a weekend hiking and eco-yoga immersion. As a result of our study and growth, I observed myself and the other 13 members of my tribe raise our vibrations in a tangible, perceptible fashion; the energy of every space we entered was unparalleled, directly demonstrating to us the undeniable power of yoga.

Overall, our yoga teacher training was a formative, life changing experience, and if you are seeking to improve yourself in any regard, I cannot recommend it enough. I left graduation a better version of myself – mind, body, and soul – and feeling elated, fulfilled, and eager to spread all that I had gained. YTT ignited a spark within me, and through my continual practice and teaching of yoga, I will keep this fire burning.

-L.G.

It is so hard to put my experience with yoga teacher training into words! The first ones that come to mind are: life changing, soul filling, family, home, community, amazing memorable experiences, extremely experienced instructors, and pure fun! I wish I could go back and do it all over again. This was the absolute best investment in myself I have ever made.  I deepened my own practice in more ways than I ever thought possible! I learned so much about all aspects of yoga. But the thing I cherish the most are the memories and the friendships I made! These friendships are better described as family! My tribe!

If you are thinking about doing yoga teacher training this is the program for you! I can’t imagine doing it anywhere but on magical Long Beach Island surrounded by beautiful sunsets and beautiful souls!

-D.W.

When I signed up for yoga teacher training, I was expecting to further my asana practice and learn more about the philosophy and teachings of yoga. I entered into the training for my own personal growth and experience, not necessarily to become a yoga teacher. What I did not expect was to receive all this and learn so much more, both about yoga and myself.

The curriculum is intense but comprehensive. We learned about the chakra system, the 8 limbs of yoga, yoga anatomy, eco-yoga, asana practice, asana cuing, asana adjustments, ayurvedic medicine, different styles of practice, class sequencing and so so so much more.   Our teachers had a wealth of knowledge in many different areas of yoga and worked endlessly throughout the training to ensure we learned all we needed to know, and were available for extra support at any time. They provided us with valuable classroom instruction as well as experiences outside the classroom for our eco-yoga classes. We also learned from required reading of ancient yoga texts, meditation, yoga theory and asana.

I started the first class nervous but excited. My fellow classmates were warm and open and we all bonded immediately. I instantly felt comfortable and knew I was in the right place. At the end of the training, I had gained 13 friends that I will keep for life in my fellow students. Our graduation day is one I will never forget, as it was magical and brought closure to such an awesome experience. Through this training, I have deepened my asana practice, have a deeper understanding about the philosophical teachings and purpose of yoga and now have a desire to share my knowledge and teach others.

My YTT 200hr experience with Yoga Bohemia delivered way more value then I ever expected! I gained powerful insight and tools to help me continue my personal yogic journey, as well as be a guide to others! YB's class design is extremely well thought out and kept my attention through out the course. We were exposed to a vast array of topics and styles of yoga. I greatly appreciate the major focus on sequencing and class design, giving me a solid foundation to begin teaching right way. Lastly, I am so grateful for the amazing new friendships this training exposed me two, I learned so much from everyone!

I will forever be grateful for this experience as I have learned so much and am ready to continue sharing the beautiful practice of yoga. I had a powerful experience with the Yoga Bohemia 200hr YTT. Katie is a great teacher for those looking to start their yoga journey. I enjoyed each instructor and their different perspectives. And being able to integrate the training into my everyday life. I loved the journey, and had a lot of fun. I am forever grateful to have been a part of it all. It affirmed my confidence in myself as a teacher, and my truth in Yoga.

Not only is the curriculum and structure of the program beautiful, but so are the instructors and people that are a part of it. I am very grateful to have learned from this community.

-P.L.

Yoga Teacher Training not only taught me how to teach yoga, but also the tools that I needed to allow myself to let go of negative patterns in order to make significant progress on my yogi path. The philosophical approach to life, learning, and loving has opened my eyes to see clearly how I can approach the world with good intentions and manifest happiness in my life. My experience this summer was a 12/10, massive slay!

-J.F.

I can confidently and highly recommend Yoga Bohemia for any and all yoga teacher trainings! This training has been such a fulfilling experience. It has strengthened my body, my knowledge, and my connection to spirituality, while nourishing my mind, my soul, and my heart. Every soul I have encountered in this program has taught me such valuable life lessons and has made me a more confident person and yogi, and I have made connections that will last a lifetime and lifetimes to come. Katie and her team of trainers are the best of the best, and I am indebted to each and every one of them for empowering me to come into my own and guiding me on my teaching journey.
-S.H.

If you've been thinking about doing a YTT, please take this as a sign that the time is NOW, and Yoga Bohemia is the correct place for you. Our training this summer was indescribably wonderful - Katie, Dani, Loren, Malia, Sarah, and Laura worked together to create a comprehensive program. Our classes were rich in discussion of yoga philosophy, and unique opportunities were provided for us as teacher trainees to explore niche yoga styles (SUP yoga, aerial, sound healing, adaptive yoga). Beyond the learning and wisdom shared, the teachers shared their passion for this lifestyle and created a cohesive community, and I now have new friends and connections that will enrich my life moving forward. Don't hesitate to sign up and change your life.

K. J.

This 200 teacher training emphasized the importance of community, tradition, and a holistic approach to yoga. Instead of just focusing on the business of yoga and what makes the money like other studios might, it really gave me the tools to change my whole life according to the traditions and history and philosophy of yoga. We were given access to amazing, credited, experienced teachers who were wholeheartedly dedicated to helping us learn, dozens of extra opportunities through the school such as extra yoga classes and events the school was hosting, and even unconventional types of yoga like paddle boarding, aerial, and accessible chair yoga. Whatever someone's intention or passion in taking this training, they met it with excited energy and advice. I loved it so much! Truly a life changing experience
- K.N.

Yoga Bohemia and all the incredible teachers showed me how a true community works together. With the training here you are not only given the training itself but there are so many opportunities to meet those in the community, to participate in activities and events that might push you out of your comfort zone or could be right up your ally. They GIVE so much, and hold their guests and students in such high vibrations. They set you up for incredible success. I am blown away by the endless opportunities and education that I have been gifted by this school. I will never stop learning from them and growing with them. I am forever grateful to Yoga Bohemia and all the teachers there that have supported me non stop through my teaching journey and I know will continue to support me through life, because as we learned, we are always learning through life. Namaste <3
- S.M.

My experience in the 200hr YTT program at Yoga Bohemia has truly been life changing! I have met the most inspiring women in my cohort who have all played a role in my personal growth this summer (whether they realize it or not) and I cannot even begin to express my gratuity. I went into this training with the goal of learning how and what tools I could be using to practice yoga OFF my mat, in my daily life, and to overcome any obstacles life may serve me. Needless to say, I am leaving with almost an overwhelmingly amount of knowledge and resources that have helped me practice that. And, as a bonus, I gained the most supportive and loving community of humans one could ever ask for! I cannot thank Katie, Loren, Daniel, Malia, Sarah, and Laura enough for leading me through this journey... and this is only the beginning!
