Meet Your Trainer: Katie Ribsam

Director and Co-Lead Trainer Katie Ribsam, ERYT 500

Director and Co-Lead Trainer Katie Ribsam, ERYT 500

A Bohemian at heart, Katie is a globe trotting, earth loving, cultural adventurer and spiritual explorer who has spent her life dreaming (and finding) ways to connect deeper with the people, planet and the infinite. With well over half of her life as a practicing yogi, Katie spent 3 years as an apprentice of the Power Yoga discipline and recently went “back to school” to study in India with internationally renowned teacher trainer Raghunath Cappo. As a yoga instructor, Katie draws from diverse styles such as Vinyasa, Yin, Restore and Hatha. As creator of the “Wave Method” for creative sequencing, Katie’s seamlessly teachers well balanced and creative flows designed to leave students with a holistic physical & energetic experience. This method of sequencing has also been applied to both Yin and Restore classes taking out the sometimes choppy or stale approach to how postures are woven together and replaced with seamless and fluid transitions in space. While physical asana is a core component of how Katie leads her classes, don’t be fooled. The physical practice is just the gateway to what lies beneath: the spiritual and emotional depth that sets this practice apart. With her main love being mama earth and with over well over a decade of environmental education experience under her belt; Katie has also developed an expertise in the up-and-coming Eco-Yoga field. Beach Yoga, SUP Yoga, Yoga Hikes, Yoga Retreats- you name it- connecting students to the environment through yoga is Katie’s specialty.

Katie has taught 10 classes of 200 hour trainees graduating over 100 students and is currently teaching her 2nd 300 hour advanced training program.

What Students are Saying!

I am so grateful that I chose Yoga Bohemia to do my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. My only wish- that it was longer. I have learned so much and grew so much in this time. Liz and Katie are super supportive and knowledgeable. They address any questions and concerns you may have to their fullest capability. I was so nervous starting this program but I am glad I did. Yoga Bohemia is super flexible with our schedules, too and that made it a no brainer for me. My goal was to learn more about the philosophy of yoga and get back into my asana practice. I managed to accomplish both. Katie and Liz also brought in so many amazing teachers like Cori, Madhu, Raghunath, Malia, and Sal. We worked on inversions, headstands, Thai Yoga, beach yoga, and even got a chance to experience Kirtan. It was a life changing journey and it doesn’t stop here. I hope to be doing Yoga Bohemia’s 300 Hour Teacher Training sometime in the near future. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your time, wisdom, patience and support.

Bohemia School of Yoga’s 200hr YTT program has been transformational in every explanation of the word. When I enrolled I assumed that at the end of 200 hours I would be able to instruct physical postures to a class of people. I was right, but this expectation was just skimming the surface. “200 hours” narrows this program down to a number, but those numbers of hours were spent with the highest quality discussion, realization, self discovery, and (personally) lots of emotional moments! This program was the most valuable investment of my time because it has truly changed my life in such a beautiful way. Katie and Lizzie are phenomenal guides and teachers, as a 200 hour class we agree that we trust them with everything. They are impressively knowledgeable, not only in all things yoga, but all things nature, science, life (the list goes on). After this program I felt fully confident and capable of teaching my own classes. But more importantly this program shed light on the life I want to lead and how I want my soul to shine in this lifetime! If I could spend every summer the way I spent this past summer I would in a heartbeat. Sign up and be ready to blossom! The journey is unimaginably beautiful, and difficult to narrow down into words, you would have to experience the magic yourself :)

I wholeheartedly recommend Bohemia School of Yoga. Katie and Liz have crafted a teaching method that combines meticulous attention to academic detail with so much heart and love. The growth that the members of my cohort and I achieved was phenomenal in terms of yoga practice, yoga philosophy, physiology, self-knowledge, confidence and teaching skills. For me to come to this experience at the age of 54 and find so much support, encouragement, friendship and learning has been such a blessing. There are too many amazing moments to describe. I will forever hold Yoga Bohemia School of Yoga, the members of my cohort and this journey deep in my heart.

I would highly recommend that anyone who is aspiring to be a yoga teacher to earn their certification through Bohemia School of Yoga. Katie and Lizzy’s combined areas of expertise and knowledge provided the absolute perfect balance of yoga Asana, yoga philosophy, and anatomy for the program’s curriculum. The combination of each of their individual subject matter expertise gave me the confidence to learn and implement the teachings of yoga to my own yoga practice and to my own arsenal of knowledge which I will now be passing along to my yoga students. Although there were multiple yoga schools in Philadelphia, making the trip to LBI was worth it. The content, knowledge, and experience that Katie and Lizzy bring to the YTT200 program is like no other. You won’t find it anywhere else. My experience at Yoga Bohemia has been life changing and would recommend to anyone

I walked through the doors of Yoga Bohemia expecting to deepen my asana practice, and I left with so much more: an open heart and mind, a nourished soul, lifelong friends, and most importantly, a better understanding of who I am as a person and how I can achieve my dharma on this earth. During our ten weeks of deep study and self-reflection, I grew and flourished in places I did not previously realize even had room for further growth, and in the process, I achieved the highest level of self-awareness I have possessed to this date.

By setting a model and example of what it means to practice yoga not just in the studio but in all aspects of one’s life, we learned how to live mindfully, maintain integrity in our actions, and take care of our interwoven minds, bodies, and souls. I loved that our training covered a wide breadth of topics, including yoga basics such as the yamas, niyamas, and sutras, as well as topics unique to Yoga Bohemia, namely a weekend hiking and eco-yoga immersion. As a result of our study and growth, I observed myself and the other 13 members of my tribe raise our vibrations in a tangible, perceptible fashion; the energy of every space we entered was unparalleled, directly demonstrating to us the undeniable power of yoga.

Overall, our yoga teacher training was a formative, life changing experience, and if you are seeking to improve yourself in any regard, I cannot recommend it enough. I left graduation a better version of myself – mind, body, and soul – and feeling elated, fulfilled, and eager to spread all that I had gained. YTT ignited a spark within me, and through my continual practice and teaching of yoga, I will keep this fire burning.

It is so hard to put my experience with yoga teacher training into words! The first ones that come to mind are: life changing, soul filling, family, home, community, amazing memorable experiences, extremely experienced instructors, and pure fun! I wish I could go back and do it all over again. This was the absolute best investment in myself I have ever made.  I deepened my own practice in more ways than I ever thought possible! I learned so much about all aspects of yoga. But the thing I cherish the most are the memories and the friendships I made! These friendships are better described as family! My tribe!

If you are thinking about doing yoga teacher training this is the program for you! I can’t imagine doing it anywhere but on magical Long Beach Island surrounded by beautiful sunsets and beautiful souls!

When I signed up for yoga teacher training, I was expecting to further my asana practice and learn more about the philosophy and teachings of yoga. I entered into the training for my own personal growth and experience, not necessarily to become a yoga teacher. What I did not expect was to receive all this and learn so much more, both about yoga and myself.

The curriculum is intense but comprehensive. We learned about the chakra system, the 8 limbs of yoga, yoga anatomy, eco-yoga, asana practice, asana cuing, asana adjustments, ayurvedic medicine, different styles of practice, class sequencing and so so so much more.   Our teachers had a wealth of knowledge in many different areas of yoga and worked endlessly throughout the training to ensure we learned all we needed to know, and were available for extra support at any time. They provided us with valuable classroom instruction as well as experiences outside the classroom for our eco-yoga classes. We also learned from required reading of ancient yoga texts, meditation, yoga theory and asana.

I started the first class nervous but excited. My fellow classmates were warm and open and we all bonded immediately. I instantly felt comfortable and knew I was in the right place. At the end of the training, I had gained 13 friends that I will keep for life in my fellow students. Our graduation day is one I will never forget, as it was magical and brought closure to such an awesome experience. Through this training, I have deepened my asana practice, have a deeper understanding about the philosophical teachings and purpose of yoga and now have a desire to share my knowledge and teach others.

My YTT 200hr experience with Yoga Bohemia delivered way more value then I ever expected! I gained powerful insight and tools to help me continue my personal yogic journey, as well as be a guide to others! YB's class design is extremely well thought out and kept my attention through out the course. We were exposed to a vast array of topics and styles of yoga. I greatly appreciate the major focus on sequencing and class design, giving me a solid foundation to begin teaching right way. Lastly, I am so grateful for the amazing new friendships this training exposed me two, I learned so much from everyone!

My experience with 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Bohemia has been transformed. I love the community that was built throughout this training. I have grown spiritually as a yoga practitioner, and spiritually. My teachers throughout this journey have been nothing but fantastic, from teaching us about philosophy to history to practice. They have all encouraged us to be just ourselves and carry ourselves with grace and mindfulness. I will forever be grateful for this experience as I have learned so much and am ready to continue sharing the beautiful practice of yoga. This 200-hour program is taught beautifully and prepares you to look inward, reflect, deepen your practice, and prepares you to guide others through this journey. I am so grateful for this experience and deeply love the studio yoga bohemia.
