A COMPLETE PRANAYAMA  soul EDUCATION

The BNS Iyengar System

WITH LOREN Baker (Russo)

Form knowledge and practice of Pranayama, the life force taken as breath, is essential to any yoga practice . This is a comprehensive program designed to benefit yoga practice throughout your life and can be continued at all ages, for full and healthy vitality.

The BNS Iyengar traditional Pranayama system consists of the following 5 Pranayamas -Vishama Vritti, Nadi Shodhana, Sheetali, Bhastrika, & Shakti Chalana. As we advance through the 5 Pranayamas, we increase the lung capacity, strengthen the nervous system, and achieve higher states of consciousness. Step by step, one advances through the system, purifying the nadis and bringing the nervous system under greater and greater conscious control until reaching the final ratio of Shakti Chalana, the Kundalini Rising Pranayama.

1. Vishama Vritti Pranayama (Uneven Rotation Pranayama):
2. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (Pulse Purification Pranayama):
3. Sheetali Pranayama (Cooling Pranayama)
4. Bhastrika Pranayama (The King of Pranayamas)
 5. Shakti Chalana Pranayama (Kundalini Rising Pranayama)

Sri BNS Iyengar, is a direct student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, “the father of modern yoga,” and a renowned Vedic scholar. As part of the peer group that developed in Mysore in the formative years of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, he developed an alternative form of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga that is accessible to all. Today, at age 98, he is the world’s elder living master and philosopher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga who is still actively teaching yoga today.

Ashtanga Yoga: As It Is

History and Protocols for Practice

WITH LOren Baker (Russo)

Ashtanga Yoga is the eight-limbed path of conscious living and spiritual practice that guides one towards Self-Knowledge, liberation and cessation of personal suffering. In Ashtanga Yoga every movement has a prescribed breath -inhale or exhale - the more the one masters the breathing/movement connection, the more the practice becomes fluid and effortless, a moving meditation. Which in turn can lead the soul to the highest states of liberation.

This workshop will supply  the information needed to practice the Ashtanga Yoga method. In this training receive a thorough explanation of its philosophy as well as a manual of the asanas that make up 1,st and 2nd series. Practice each asana with hands on instruction and assists, learn the invocation mantra and dedication mantra of the tradition, and study the mythology behind the Sanskrit names of the asanas that makes up the series.

The vinyasa style of classes he gives are a combination of Ashtanga and Iyengar, being able to suit many different levels in one class as well as seamlessly introducing the stories or philosophical background of each asana, including an approach to self-awareness through meditation and breathwork. A Bohemian at heart, Katie is a globe trotting, earth loving, cultural adventurer and spiritual explorer who has spent her life dreaming (and finding) ways to connect deeper with the people, planet and the infinite. With well over half of her life as a practicing yogi, Katie spent 3 years as an apprentice of the Power Yoga discipline and recently went “back to school” to study in India with internationally renowned teacher trainer Raghunath Cappo. As a yoga instructor, Katie draws from diverse styles such as Vinyasa, Yin, Restore and Hatha. As creator of the “Wave Method” for creative sequencing, Katie’s seamlessly teachers well balanced and creative flows designed to leave students with a holistic physical & energetic experience. This method of sequencing has also been applied to both Yin and Restore classes taking out the sometimes choppy or stale approach to how postures are woven together and replaced with seamless and fluid transitions in space. While physical asana is a core component of how Katie leads her classes, don’t be fooled. The physical practice is just the gateway to what lies beneath: the spiritual and emotional depth that sets this practice apart. With her main love being mama earth and with over well over a decade of environmental education experience under her belt; Katie has also developed an expertise in the up-and-coming Eco-Yoga field. Beach Yoga, SUP Yoga, Yoga Hikes, Yoga Retreats- you name it- connecting students to the environment through yoga is Katie’s specialty.
